Engendering of the Welfare State

Hong Seung-Ah
Abstract
Over the last 20 years there has beer many critics on the welfare state, one of them is from the feminists. Feminists have criticized the existing welfare states are structured by gender which absolutely need to be changed by engendering them,
Firstly, they emphasize the existing welfare state is based on the assumptions of"man-breadwinner/ woman-housewife" stereotype and gender division of labor. On the basis of these assumptions social policies have been developed by gender and the distribution of the welfare provisions also has been structured by gender.
Secondly, from the standpoint of feminist, the welfare state regimes theory and the term of "de-commodification" of Esping-Anderson(1990) have serious faults, which are based on the (male) paid labor and neglected the unpaid carework and other domestic labor. Therefore they demand the horizon of the discussion of welfare state should be extended through encompassing both paid and unpaid labor which are simultaneously fundamental to the societies.
Thrifty, we ran endeavor alternative model of welfare state by engendering welfare states. Here we propose two rudimentary themes, the reidentification of the relationship of the "state-market-family" and individual model of welfare model instead of male breadwinner model,
